Sunway Group Globalism, Brands & Ecosystems Presentation

As part of Sunway’s iLabs Innovation Hub inauguration in Kuala Lumpur, I was invited to present about best practices for ecosystem building and positioning, locally and globally.

Sunway Group

Sunway Group is one of Southeast Asia’s largest conglomerates, including business units in hospitality, retail, education, healthcare, construction, and more. Sunway iLabs was lauched to support innovation and entrepreneurship in the region, and to integrate opportunities into Sunway.

What They Needed

  • Sunway Group was launching their innovation lab, Sunway iLabs, and hosted an inauguration event at their Kuala Lumpur headquarters. They invited individuals from entrepreneurship ecosystems around the world, and hosted local entrepreneurs and corporate professionals.

  • Given my experience working in ecosystems in the USA and Europe, they were interested in learning about insights into some best practices for ecosystem success.

How We Collaborated

  • I attended the launch event at Sunway iLabs, and was invited to speak on the topic of entrepreneur ecosystems and how cities around the world can brand and position themselves to become a hub for entrepreneurship and innovation.

  • The presentation covered use cases and best practices for how to personalize your ecosystem to attract the right talent for the strengths and resources that your ecosystem has. It also included information about how to stand out by positioning your ecosystem as a brand that leverages the things it does particularly well.

The Results

  • The presentation was well received, with particularly strong interest from the Sunway Ventures team, and the young entrepreneurs in the audience.

  • As Kuala Lumpur was starting to become a leading ecosystem in Southeast Asia, the insights from the presentation helped provide some clarity, tools, and confidence for local ecosystem participants to move forward with.
