Barcelona Supercomputing Center Innovation Journey Workshop
Co-facilitated a Lean Canvas workshop for a cohort of startups participating in their Innovation Journey accelerator program.
Barcelona Supercomputing Center
Barcelona Supercomputing Center is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It is a research and development center, with a focus on computer and computational science. We collaborated for their Innovation Journey accelerator program, facilitating a workshop for their cohort of entrepreneurs.
What They Needed
-
Barcelona Supercomputing Center was launching their first accelerator program, Innovation Journey, with a cohort of deep tech entrepreneurs. They needed assistance in facilitating workshops for their program.
-
The startup participants within Barcelona Supercomputing Center were well versed in engineering, science, and math. However, they lacked business and entrepreneurship experience, so it was important to start with a more basic workshop for first-time startups.
How We Collaborated
-
Along with a co-collaborator, as part of the programming within the Innovation Journey program, we facilitated a Lean Business Model Canvas for the cohort. This included educating them on how the canvas works, and providing support and feedback as they created a Lean Canvas for their respective projects.
-
In this capacity, my co-collaborator and I developed and delivered the workshop to the BSC entrepreneurs. We helped them understand the value of the Lean Canvas, and apply the value of this canvas directly to their own businesses.
The Results
-
Every team in the workshop successfully finished a Lean Canvas for their startup. Through the process they challenged their assumptions, and learned to think more holistically about the business and its viability.
-
This exercise helped them to grow beyond the role of technologists and engineers, and think about their ventures in the scope of a viable business that can deliver value and become profitable.
