Materia Rica is a Barcelona-based sustainable accessories brand that offers original, quality designs through wearable stories. They have licenses and collaborations with several notable institutions, including the Tate Modern, Salvador Dali, René Magritte, and more.
What They Needed

Materia Rica had experienced some considerable growth in the past year, but needed help with scaling their business. They needed insights into defining a strategy to optimize their growth, and position the brand — financially, operationally, and psychologically — on the path for sustainable success and building on their brand equity.

Materia Rica needed someone who had experience and understood the fashion industry, business, strategy, entrepreneurship, and could apply this knowledge in a format that could transform their company. This collaboration would be a 12 month consulting project, implementing a unique methodology throughout the process, including various milestones and objectives.
How We Collaborated

The initial meeting was a discovery and evaluation process, to understand the company’s needs, and to uncover the most pressing problems and opportunities. This information was then synthesized into a strategy and methodology, including monthly workshops and sprints, addressing topics according to our progress along this process.

We diagnosed the underlying issues, across various parts of the company’s structure and operations, and formulated an action plan to fix these problems. We also identified areas that were working, that could be capitalized on further, and set in motion various initiatives to build upon these successful areas. Every month presented new issues and opportunities, but the methodology from this collaboration guided us throughout the process with more clarity and purpose in our goals and deliverables.
The Results

The collaboration is still ongoing, but midway through this project, we can already measure significant growth in revenue and profit, expansion into other markets, and interest in opportunities for future product offerings. Furthermore, the vision is more clear from the top down on which areas the business needs to focus on, including cultivating the team and deliverables to execute on these high leverage objectives.

Materia Rica is much more clear on the brand it is, and the brand it wants to be. They have a greater understanding of what their customers want, how they perceive their brand, and what kinds of opportunities they can deliver to existing customers and to generate new ones, while still be in line with the brand’s values and vision. This clarity is translated in their market positioning, their product offering, and their communications. There is a renewed excitement for what the future holds for the brand, as we have established a stronger foundation to build on.
